Nice Work On That Meat Pie

Last week, I had the special opportunity to come to this Mediterranean oasis on Colfax!

Mmmm, Mataam Fez!

I brought some mustaches for girls and met up with some special people!

This one special person in particular!
It was Steph's birthday!

Sweet Gina was there - she rocked a sensible mustache.

I was wearing something a little more severe.
I'll choose better next time, I think.

Christal picked this melodramatic curly mustache. I think it worked for her!

TJ chose a mustache as well and Sam let his chin hair speak for him!

Douglet was there!

Mataam Fez is definitely an experience!

There were hardly any other people in the restaurant...which is good because we're usually assholes that make everyone hate us.

Steph opened some presents while we waited for the rest of the guests to arrive!

The ladies, the ladies...

And through the door came...

Darling Meg!

She brought her old ball and chain - Chris!

Baby S was there too!

We had to ditch our mustaches when the food and drinks started rolling in...

Douglet got jealous and had to try one on.

This place is strictly a no shoe/sit on the floor place!

They give you towels...

and they wash your hands!

We're ready for food!

And out came the most magnificent lentil soup!
The bread was pretty amazing too!

Grubbin'!

There had been little finger cymbals being played in the back rooms of the restaurant...

And we knew that Mataam Fez has belly dancing every night...

But when it happens...it's almost like you don't know what to do.
Tipping seems vulgar.

You feel sort of embarrassed and giggly...

Okay, I guess just I felt that way.

Okay, maybe Chris felt that way too!

Sweet ladies!

I always let Chris take pictures with my camera because he gets amazing shots...sometimes.

Like this one.
Pretty amazing.

Mmm, veggies!
The tomatoes were outstanding.
Everyone raved about the beets, but I'm opposed to them.

Then we got these crazy meat pies.
Essentially, they are philo dough, chicken, egg, cinnamon, and powdered sugar.
Honestly, I fucking loved it! I'm all about the sweet and savory, but not everyone was down with it!

When our main courses finally arrived...we were all pretty full.

Gross.

Yeah, I had approximately 3 bites of this.

The nice part about sitting on the floor amongst a wall of pillows...is that you can really get down with the recline.

When you're as full as we were...it's the only sensible thing to do!

I could have used my Snuggie.

After the meal, the waiter washed our hands again and splashed our faces and hands with rose water.
That's my favorite part.

Happy Birthday, Colonel Sanders!

Strangely, this turned out better than I had anticipated.

The last part of the meal was this amazing spearmint tea...and the waiter did all kinds of rad pouring tricks!

And the tea was sweet and settled our tight tummies!

It was a blast!

There was a lot of laughter...

and so much food!

These are great people to spend a birthday with!

And in such a lovely place...

Happy birthday, Steph!
From your favorite party monster!
